How to Approach the Book
In the detailed Table of Contents, you may see many subjects that grab your interest. Some people are immediately drawn to the information about the Universal Father in Papers 1-5, or the Eternal Son in Papers 6-7, or Isle of Paradise in Paper 11. Others are drawn to the Lucifer Rebellion in Papers 53 and 54, or the Adam and Eve story in Papers 73 -76. These papers provide a clear understanding of what really happened and why our planet is as it is today. So you may want to skip through the book to read sections that grab your interest. But once you have satisfied your immediate curiosity about Parts 1, 2 and 3, we encourage you to move to Part 4.
Part 4 is the starting point from where you will gain the most benefit. When you complete Part 4, you will have a first-class understanding of Jesus and the New Testament writings. You will understand Christianity, the reason for its divisions, and how it can be unified. You will find peace and hope, and you understand why Jesus’ message is such good news. And for those who have a ministry mindset, you will be fully equipped as an “ambassador substituting for Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)
During your reading, you will come across phrases and names and titles that you don’t understand. Do not fret over those things. Continue reading. You will still be able to get the basic understanding of the material. When you complete Part 4, we recommend that you read Part 2, then Part 3, and then Part 1. Finally, after reading all four Parts, that’s when you’ll want to tackle the Foreword.
Many of the concepts in the Foreword are interesting, but the definitions will have more meaning once you have read the book first. Strange, but true. The more you read the book, matters that once seemed like a foreign language will become practically second nature. And after one full reading, you will have the beginnings of a working knowledge of our entire universe of universes. And you’ll be somewhat of a scholar!
To help you in your reading of Part 4, we encourage you to take part in the Life and Teachings of Jesus Reading Project, the LTJ, where the papers are narrated with beautiful artwork and music. You’ll find a link to the LTJ Project below.
It takes time to truly understand The Urantia Book, but you will immediately benefit from whatever portions you choose to read. We have been reading it, off and on, for over 20 years and are still discovering and expanding our understanding of the vast Grand Universe and the majestic personalities who serve in our overwhelmingly friendly universe.
We hope you take the time to investigate the book. Follow Jesus’ counsel to ‘keep asking, keep seeking and keep knocking’ (Matthew 7:7-8), and learn the breadth, the length, the depth, and the height, and know the love of Christ, which surpasses all knowledge.’ (Ephesians 3:18-19)
Finally, as mentioned above, for those who would like to see an excellent artist’s rendering of The Grand Universe as described in the Urantia Book, be sure to watch the video Journey Through the Universe linked below.
Thank you for taking the time to watch these videos. If you have any questions or comments about the book, please Contact Us. Our primary ministry is to uplift the spiritual conversation worldwide by reintroducing the authentic Jesus and his actual teachings as set forth in The Bible, and now as expounded in The Urantia Book - a New Revelation of Hope.
